an audiovisual poem about commuting, being in space, transition, inbetween-ness, emotions and memories brought through window views and surrounding sounds. Film was made during the Found Footage workshop as part of Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS.
During the Found Footage workshop led by visual artist Vika Eksta, we learnt about the ways one can use and transform archival footage into something new. The aim was to create a film, a self portrait using found video and audio, whether drawn from your own collection and/or found in public archives.
I’ve primarily used my own videos, photos and sound recordings captured on trains and buses, in Latvia and Scotland. I enjoy documenting a moment, a feeling, but mainly all of that stays in voice memos and gallery on my phone, so this was a great opportunity to make a film about that side of traveling.
Living in Glasgow I make sure to travel back to Riga on a regular basis, so quite a few recordings in this film are from those spaces, blended together with music I previously wrote (that also is unreleased and sits in folders on my hard drive), along with a beautiful analogue graphic film I found on archive.org.
